Chennai Super Kings Crowned IPL 2023 Champions. In the final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, Chennai Super Kings emerged as the champions by defeating Gujarat Titans by five wickets based on the Duckworth-Lewis method. This victory marked Chennai’s fifth IPL title.

Chasing a target of 171 runs in 15 overs, Chennai reached the required total losing 5 wickets. The match had rain interruptions, and five overs were shortened due to the weather conditions. The game was initially stopped after the first over due to rain, and there was a significant delay.

Shibam Dubey from Chennai remained not out with 32 runs, including 2 sixes, scored off 21 balls. Ravindra Jadeja was also not out with 15 runs, hitting 1 four and 1 six off 6 balls. The situation became tense when Chennai needed 13 runs off the last 6 balls.

Mohit Sharma, the bowler from Gujarat, bowled a yorker and kept Dubey in check with a first-ball dismissal. Chennai managed to score 1 run in the second ball, leaving them with 12 runs required from 4 balls. Sharma bowled another yorker in the third ball, and Jadeja scored a single. Even after the fourth ball, the title seemed difficult for Chennai as they only managed to score a single run.

The match took an interesting turn when Jadeja hit a six on the fifth ball, leaving Chennai needing 4 runs off the last ball for victory. In the final delivery, Jadeja sealed the title by hitting a four towards the leg side.

During the chase, Chennai’s openers Rituraj Gaikwad and Devon Conway provided a strong start by adding 74 runs in 6.3 overs. However, both openers got out in the seventh over by spinner Noor Ahmed. Gaikwad scored 26 runs off 16 balls, including 3 fours and 1 six, while Conway made 47 runs off 25 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes. Ajinkya Rahane contributed 27 runs off 13 balls with 2 fours and 2 sixes before being caught out by Vijay Shankar off Mohit Sharma.

Ambati Rayudu, playing his last IPL game, was bowled out by Mohit Sharma for 19 runs off 8 balls, including 1 four and 2 sixes. When Dhoni came to the crease, Chennai needed 22 runs off 14 balls, but he was caught out by David Miller off Mohit Sharma. Chennai required 22 runs in 13 balls at that point.

In the first innings, Gujarat Titans won the toss and chose to bat first at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. They posted a total of 214 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in the scheduled 20 overs.

Sai Sudarshan, a young batsman, played a brilliant innings of 96 runs off 47 balls, including 8 fours and 6 sixes, which contributed significantly to Gujarat’s total. Wriddhiman Shah, the experienced wicketkeeper, scored 54 runs off 39 balls with 5 fours and 1 six. Shubman Gill made 39 runs off 20 balls, including 7 fours.

Gill was stumped by Dhoni off Jadeja’s bowling on the last ball of the seventh over, thanks to Dhoni’s excellent wicketkeeping skills. Gill and Wriddhiman Shah shared a partnership of 67 runs in 7 overs for the first wicket. Sudarshan and Wriddhiman Shah then added 64 runs off 42 balls for the second wicket.

Hardik Pandya remained not out with 21 runs, including 2 sixes

off 12 balls. He and Sudarshan shared an 81-run partnership in 33 balls for the third wicket. Chennai’s Mathisa Pathirana took 2 wickets for 44 runs in 4 overs, while Deepak Chahar and Ravindra Jadeja claimed one wicket each.

In the league stage, Gujarat Titans finished at the top position, while Chennai Super Kings secured the second position and made it to the playoffs. In the first qualifier, Chennai defeated Gujarat, earning a spot in the final. Gujarat, on the other hand, defeated Mumbai in the second qualifier to reach the final.
