State Funeral Held for Sita Dahal

Kathmandu, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s (Prachanda) wife, Sita Dahal, passed away on Wednesday morning at the age of 69. She had been undergoing treatment at Norvic International Hospital in Thapathali. Sita had been battling various health conditions, including progressive Supranuclear palsy, Parkinsonism, type 2 diabetes, and hypertension for a prolonged period.

State Funeral Held for Sita Dahal

On Wednesday afternoon, a state funeral was accorded to Sita Dahal in Kathmandu. PM Dahal, who had previously lit the funeral pyre of his son Prakash six years ago, performed the last rites for his wife at the Pashupati Aryaghat. The funeral ceremony was attended by Dahal’s daughters, Renu and Ganga, daughters-in-law Sirjana Tripathi and Bina Magar, as well as grandchildren.

Earlier in the day, an emergency Cabinet meeting had been held, deciding to bestow state honors upon Sita. Her body was draped with the national flag, and a gun salute was offered by a contingent of the Nepal Army as a mark of respect. Prior to the cremation, Sita’s body was kept at the central office of CPN (Maoist Center) at Paris Danda, Koteshwar, from 11 AM to 1 PM for people to pay their final respects.

The news of Sita Dahal’s demise has garnered attention from political leaders, high-ranking government officials, chiefs of security agencies, heads of diplomatic missions, and others who visited the Paris Danda location to pay their tributes.
