Kathmandu: The Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Balendra Shah (Balen), has departed for Brazil to participate in the Metropolis Board of Directors meeting. He left on a flight at 2:15 AM today to attend the meeting scheduled to be held in São Paulo, Brazil on June 19 and 20, 2024 (Ashar 5 and 6, 2081 BS). Mayor Shah is expected to return to Nepal on Ashar 8. He is accompanied by infrastructure advisor Sunil Lamsal.
Mayor Shah is a member of the Metropolis Board of Directors. Metropolis is an international organization that includes over 150 major cities worldwide, facilitating mutual and global cooperation, dialogue, knowledge and solution exchange, and raising collective voices.
This time, the primary discussion topic is urban housing and buildings. The Board of Directors will discuss the challenges of housing in cities and conclude on topics related to decent and comfortable housing. Mayor Shah will address the meeting.
As part of the program, Mayor Shah will participate as a panelist in the “Mayor’s Round Table” on Wednesday, which will focus on housing, land, metropolitan welfare, and improving living standards, under the title “Metropolis Policy Debate.”
The policy debate will concentrate on dimensions of urban housing, scarcity and impacts, global joint programs to reduce climate risks, sufficient infrastructure, low carbon footprint, and inclusive approaches to meet the diverse needs of all community members.
The policy debate is expected to bring together key stakeholders from major cities worldwide, international organizations, and financial institutions to exchange insights on local challenges and create investment opportunities.
The meeting aims to network political leaders from major cities around the world to exchange knowledge on innovative housing and land management based on policy. Observations will be made on São Paulo’s efforts to ensure decent, economical urban housing.
The meeting will provide evidence-based solutions, sharing diverse local experiences, efforts, and results from different parts of the world.
