Yuwa Netra Sewa Celebrates 15 Years of 'One Cup of Tea' Campaign

Kathmandu – The ‘One Cup of Tea’ campaign, which collects donations equal to the price of one cup of tea to provide eye care services to underprivileged Nepalese, has celebrated its 15th anniversary. The campaign is run by the organization Yuwa Netra Sewa.

The anniversary program was held in Kathmandu, under the chairmanship of Siddhartha Ranjit. Renowned artist Madan Krishna Shrestha was the chief guest, while lifelong member and founder of the organization, Dr. Surendra Prasad Dhakal, attended as a special guest.

The campaign celebrates One Cup of Tea Day as a symbolic event to restore eyesight to those who are losing their vision. Over the past 14 years, the organization has gathered 434 members, including 250 annual members and 184 lifetime members.

Yuwa Netra Sewa has provided eye-related services such as eye health education, school eye checkups, free eye camps, and regular free clinics. This year alone, they conducted 14 free eye camps, provided eye checkups to 840 people, tested the eyesight of 200 school students, and performed free cataract and pterygium surgeries on 84 patients.

The organization has set a goal to provide free eye surgery to more than 100 people and increase the number of lifetime members to 200 within the next year.

The organizers expressed their sincere thanks to sponsors such as Sukirti Optical Eye Care Center, Namaste Eye Center Pvt. Ltd., Dharmasthali Savings and Credit Cooperative, Omkaresh Nakarmi, and Hira Devi Maharjan for their financial and other support.
