The final hearing of the rape case against cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane will continue on Wednesday.

Earlier on Sunday, the hearing that started in the courtroom of Kathmandu District Court Judge Sisirraj Dhakal was not completed and was kept under ‘wait and see’. With that, the hearing will continue on Wednesday as there was a public holiday for 2 consecutive days.

On the first day of the hearing, the public prosecutor argued on behalf of the victim, claiming that the victim was a minor, and they argued that Sandeep should be given the maximum punishment.

After the arguments on behalf of the victims are over on Wednesday, lawyers will argue on behalf of Sandeep.

If Sandeep is found guilty, he will have to spend at least 10 years in jail. According to sub-section 2 of Section 219 of the Civil Code, it is mentioned that having consensual sexual relations with a person under the age of 18 is considered rape and the guilty will be sentenced to 10 to 12 years in prison.

Sandeep is accused of raping a teenage girl. The girl said to be Sandeep took her to a hotel in Gaushala and she lodged a complaint at police circle Gaushala on 21 August 2079 with allegations that Sandeep raped her repeatedly.
